Be sure to test indoors before hanging your nestbox outside!
Locate cable ends from the camera in the plastic cable trunking down the side of the nestbox and connect them to the matching colour leads from the extension cable. The trunking cover pulls off. Clip trunking back securely to protect the cable joins!
Now connect the white and yellow jackplugs into the matching sockets AV sockets on your TV. Go to our page "CCTV connection diagrams" for a useful diagram of this.
If your TV only has SCART or HDMI inputs then you will need the appropriate adapter/adapter kit in order to connect the AV cable plugs. These adapters are available on this website under STORE in the ACCESSORIES section and instructions for using them are provided on a separate page here.
The camera microphone is very sensitive and the nestbox is an “echo chamber”, so turn down the TV volume and then adjust to a comfortable level for listening to nestbox activity. When testing indoors keep the nestbox at a reasonable distance from the TV to avoid unpleasant feedback!
Plug the power adaptor into an electric power socket (the power socket should be turned off at the wall at this point) then plug the red end of the extension cable into the adapter. You may find the diagram at the end of this page helpful with this.
Now turn on the wall socket and tune to the TV input channel you are using for the camera and you should see the inside of the nestbox on your TV. If not try another input channel.
If the camera is not in focus or is not facing square towards the base of the nestbox undo screws in the lid and lift it off. Adjust the focus by gently turning the lens on the front of the camera whilst watching the TV screen until best clarity is obtained. Bear in mind that once there is a nest in the box the focal point will be a couple of inches off the floor!
If you have a 700TVL camera you will need to gently loosen the tiny screw on the side of the lens before you can adjust it.
Adjust camera position by very gently tilting on the bracket until correct. Carefully replace the lid once you are happy with the view inside and disconnect the extension leads from the camera, unwind cable and pass it outside. Please go to our page "CCTV connection diagrams" for diagram explaining best way to pass cable ends through a small hole.
Lastly hang the nestbox where you think the birds will enjoy nesting.
